Travel Film Festival – See The World Your Way

There’s no better way to tell your travel story than to do it through the lens of a camera.  It puts viewers right into the heart of the action and is so immersive that you swear you were there yourself.  Travel videos are so captivating to watch because it gets you psyched about travel, showcases incredible places you always wanted to go, and last but most importantly, tells a human story of our yearning to explore the world.

I’m pleased to be one of the first few to announce a pretty amazing project by a local Canadian travel company, travelcuts.  For the first time ever, travel is going to get the spotlight when it comes to films with the debut of several new documentaries and selected videos submitted by real travellers like you.

Film Festival For Travel

Here’s how the travelcuts Travel Doc FilmFest will work.  Several short travel documentaries by travelcuts will be premiered at the festival but in addition to that, the top 3 videos from the competition will be featured at a red carpet event in November.

For a teaser of what you’ll see at the film fest, here is a little sneak peek.

How You Can Submit and Win

Of course, it wouldn’t be a film festival without entries from the real travellers on the ground like YOU.   This is where you can get creative.  Whether you have something deep to share, can make us laugh or can get us pumped about travel, we want to see it all.  All you need to do is get your videos in by October 31st for a chance to win a pretty huge prize.

Entering your own travel documentary is easy.

  1. Upload your 2-5 minute travel video to YouTube that shows where you’ve been. Make sure your description has your first name, last name, and #travelcutsDOC.
  2. Head over to the official FilmFest website and scroll down to the entry form.
  3. Fill out your details and make sure you paste in the proper YouTube URL for the video.

I will be on the judging committee to select the top three submissions from the film fest.  Each of these will be showcased at the festival.  We will then open it up to the public and Canadians will be able to vote for their favourite video via social media from November 6 – 20.

Prizes for the winner include a $2,000 travel card and an Optrix by Body Glove case for your phone.  That’s money and gear that’ll go a long way to continue your travel adventures.

About travelcuts

So why is travelcuts putting all of this together?  Well, simply put, these guys love travel and are obsessed with getting you to those incredible places around the world.  Whether it’s that dream trip to Peru to hike the Inca Trail, dune buggy in Ecuador, or falling in love with the charming streets of Europe, travelcuts has you covered.

travelcuts has a brand new website that launched earlier this year and it’s jam packed with vacation ideas, deals and travel tips provided by Rough Guides.  They’ve made the site super easy to navigate and find either that vacation you’re looking for or if you simply want to book a flight, hotel, or rail pass.

In addition, they’ve become a leader in travel insurance as well, making sure you’re completely safe even for the types of adventures others may not cover you for.  I always make sure I hit the road with adequate travel insurance coverage because you never know what will happen and on top of that, it’s always pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things.

So the big question really is, do you have the filmmaker in you to get your travel doc featured?
