The submissions have closed for the 2016 travel cuts film fest which means that over the next few days the judges (myself included) have been carefully watching every single video. I’m happy to be announcing the finalists for #travelcutsDOC and also excited to be giving away a pair of tickets to the event for a lucky reader.
The only travel film festival of its kind
Last year was the inaugural event which brought 3 finalists to the centre stage. All of them were deserving of being winners but there could only be one. Ultimately Mark Harrison won top prize and walked away with $2,000 and an Optrix™ by Body Glove kit and accessories to capture every moment of his next trip
Alongside that, travelcuts also premiered their own travel documentary filmed by award-winning Toronto-based filmmaker Alexander Reid, in some of the earth’s most incredible, off-the-beaten-path places in Peru, Ecuador, and Europe.
This year, travelcuts has changed it up a bit and gotten the 3 finalists from last year to return to film this year’s travel documentary. They’ve also upped the ante with $5,000 in travel on the line!

Red carpet event
On October 5, 2016, travelcuts will be hosting the event at The Brainstation (460 King St. W. in Toronto). It will be an open bar event with mingling to start. This will be a great opportunity to meet the ambassadors like myself at the event and representatives from the media and travel industry. So far we know that there’ll be someone from G Adventures and Contiki there so if you’re a travel blogger, there’ll be quite an exclusive list of attendees at the event.
Once the film fest starts, there’ll be a screening of the documentary filmed by the 3 finalists from the previous year, followed by the screening of the films from this year’s finalists, and the announcement of the winner chosen by your votes.
The event wraps up with more mingling and networking to end off the night.
