A Quick Galway Travel Guide
Money – The euro is the currency in Ireland. Credit cards are widely accepted everywhere. Don’t waste your money at currency exchanges, as their rates are usually high. The best way to get cash is to either use a travel company like AAA with very reasonable prices for exchange before leaving for Ireland or by pulling money out from an ATM. Be aware that your bank will likely charge you for the withdrawal, but the fee will be less than a currency exchange.
When is the best time to visit? – Ireland is beautiful year-round but is swarming with tourists in the summer. If you don’t mind the rain, fall and spring are optimal times to visit.
Getting there – You can get to Galway by plane, train, and car. It will be more expensive to fly internationally into the airport in Galway, so consider flying into Dublin and renting a car to get to Galway. You will see so much of beautiful Ireland that way.
Getting around – Galway is a fantastic walking city. It is easy to get around by car, but be aware that they drive on the opposite side of the road and car and it is a very bustling city. Taking the city bus is another great option for getting around.
