The Hilton Honors program has gone through a lot of changes over the past years but there have always been a very small subset of hotels that were incredibly cheap on points.  They’re in areas that you would least expect so without further ado, here are the best Hilton Honors hotels that only cost 5,000 points.

Hilton Hotels for 5000 Points

While the Hilton Honors Category 1 hotels don’t exist anymore, the other sad part of it is that there honestly aren’t many hotels that only cost 5,000 points anymore. Still, let’s point out the ones that you can still find today.

Today, there are really only 2 Hilton hotels left that only cost 5,000 Hilton Honors points so we’ve listed them below.

How to find 5,000 point hotels

Yeah can easily find Hilton hotels that only cost 5,000 points thanks to the Hilton Honors Points explorer tool. You simply pull the slider all the way to the left, where 5,000 is the minimum number of points and click on the button “Discover Destinations”.

The results will start focused on the United States but the map dynamically populates based on which part of the world you’re looking at. All you have to do is click and drag the map around and you’ll see the results change.

For 5,000 Hilton Honors points, unfortunately, you won’t find too many results but if you increase your parameters to say 7,000 points or 10,000 points, you’ll see more.

It’s worth noting that if you type in a new destination into the “Where to?” field, you’ll go back to regular search.

What happened to categories?

You’ll notice that all mention of categories have been removed by Hilton. This is because they’ve completely gone away with them. In fact, they’ve gone away with award charts completely.

This means that the number of points it takes to book a room is dynamically priced based on supply and demand. In simple terms, if it’s high season, it’ll cost more and if it’s low season, fewer points are required.

Travel Resources For Your Next Trip

If you’re in the process of planning your trip and putting together your itinerary, these are genuinely the best resources that the Going Awesome Places team stands by 100%.

Credit cards: Don’t get burned by hidden fees on top of terrible exchange rates. When we travel now, we use the Wise Card. Simply load it with the currency you need before you go and use it as a regular VISA or their digital wallet card. Use their free app to track how much you have and top up when you need to.

Flights: Of all the booking search engines, Skyscanner is the most helpful and easy to use thanks to their Everywhere feature. Kayak is also another that’s we will often check as well.

Car Rental: If you’re looking to save money, these car rental coupon codes will be a true game-changer. Otherwise, DiscoverCars and RentalCars are great places to start.

Rideshare: For new Lyft users, use code WILLIAM4825 to get 50% off your first 2 rides (max $10 USD per ride). Offer valid for 14 days after you take your first ride. For new Uber users, use code psuqbjg4d7rn for the same offer except it’s valid for 30 days.

Airport Parking: You’ll need a spot to leave your car at the airport so why not book a spot at a discount. Use code AWESOME7 to get at least $5 off at Airport Parking Reservations or Park Sleep Fly packages.

eSIM: Lately, we’ve really loved using eSIMs. We’ve tested several over the years and we have access to a few special promotions.

  • AmigoSIM – Use GOINGAWESOMEPLACES to save 25% off. Code is re-useable.
  • Gigsky – Use TANG149 to get $3 USD when you sign up, then use code GOINGAWESOME to save 20% on all eSIM orders.
  • KnowRoaming – Use code GAP10 to save 10%.

Wifi Hotspot: We’ve been a huge fan of wifi hotspot devices such as PokeFi (use code GAP24300) because their rates are are hard to beat and it works globally. Solis is another that we recommend. Pros are that you can share the wifi with your whole group but cons are that you have to invest in a device and you have to charge it every night.

Hotels: Our go-to is Booking.com because they have the best inventory of properties including hotels and B&Bs plus they have their Genius tier discounts. Expedia is also worth using especially with their One Key rewards program which is basically like cash. The exception is Asia where Agoda always has the best prices. Always do a quick check on TripAdvisor as well.

Vacation Rentals: Your first instinct will be to check Airbnb but we always recommend checking VRBO as well if you’re looking for a vacation rental (now eligible for One Key).

Tours and Activities: When planning our trips, we always check both Viator and GetYourGuide to at least see what’s out there in the destination that we’re going to. They often have different offerings and prices so check both.

Travel Insurance: Learn how to buy the best travel insurance for you. This isn’t something you want to travel without.

  • HeyMondo – Popular insurance provider for frequent travelers and comes with great coverage and special perks. By booking through our link to get a 5% discount!

  1. So sad to see the Bali HGI and the Bucaramanga Hampton disappear from the 5000 point list. So very many nights at both.

After 40 nights, you start to get 10k back per 10 nights for an additional 1000/nt. Then one year they had double night promo, so I was getting 2000/nt back. With the 5th night free dropping the price from 5000 to 4000, I was using just 2000 per night!

Those were the days. You will be missed!

    1. Those were definitely the good old days! Glad to hear you got to maximize it! I hope they bring back more hotels at the 5,000 rate.

  2. Hi there, looking at the Hilton Salahah resort in Oman, can’t find anything less than 30k points a night. Are you sure 5k points is possible? Any idea when?

    Thanks,

    Freddy

    1. It does look like it’s gone up sadly. It used to be 5000 points but what’s frustrating is that I can’t find the official category for the hotel.

        1. That’s true they did although I still like to think of them as categories. There might’ve been some changes recently but I know I checked earlier and I was still seeing Hilton Hurghada as the base cost of points if you check out the Points Explorer tool.
