When we prowled for somewhere to go for a long weekend, this came up at the cheapest accommodation for a reasonable distance from Toronto to make a weekend trip for. A rather isolated location, you're more or less reliant on the lodge itself for everything, which means food is generally pricier than you might be used to, but not unreasonable given that everything has to be trucked in from Sudbury. It provides free canoe/kayak/bike rentals, ready access to the Killarney Provincial Park, Georgian Bay and some local lighthouses, and is one relaxed place. It's also close enough to Sudbury for an easy day trip to take in Science North, and their geological exhibits up at the giant nickle which makes it good for kids as well. We stayed in old staff housing, so no-frills bunk room with shared bathrooms that even with an infant worked. It would have helped to have an in-suite fridge, but that was the only downside. I suspect other room options, such as their cabins, or rooms in the main guest buildings, are better featured, but on the whole we had few complaints for the trip, It's on our list of places to take our son once he's older, as a base to take him to Science North, the Park, out on Georgian Bay in canoe or one of their resort sailboats etc. Final note: this is not necessarily somewhere to access Manitoulin Island from if you don't have a boat (but would be if you do!), only because the road system requires you to drive 45 minutes to Sudbury, and then another hour or so to the island, but it would make a decent one/two-night stop point for a trip to Manitoulin if you have a week+ to explore the area.
