    A must see in NYC!
I don't really understand the negative reviews of this place. Attending this show was one of my fondest memories of visiting NYC. The vibe and theming is absolutely phenomenal. Maybe I just went on a good day, but I didn't think the crowds were too bad, I could always see the actor I was following. You will get tired after running around for 3 hours, so wear comfortable shoes. Maybe you won't enjoy it if you're someone who needs a coherent, easy to follow storyline. To me, the experience was worth every penny.

It would have been great but it was so overcrowded
The concept blew me away. The place the music and the actors were magnificent. I felt like I was in the Bioshock videogame at times. But it was eay overcrowded so a lot of times a lot of us couldn't follow a character or see what was going on bc we were too much and didn't fit in the rooms. I'd love to give it 5 stars bc, again, the performace was a 100/10 but the organization failed trying to fit 500 people ( just a guess) following 6 characters into sometimes very tiny rooms.

    Way too long
Way too long! After an hour and half I started looking at my watch, and I saw others doing the same. Towards the end I didn't have the energy to chase one. more character, especially because all we did was run up and down stairs. I saw so many people sitting everywhere after 2 hours in.....the show could have been better appreciated by me (and many others I'm sure) if they cut an hour off it. 3 hours is overkill.

    Third Time!
This was my third time checking into The McKittrick Hotel, but my first visit since they reopened after the pandemic. I took my friend who was a SNM virgin and she loved it! I saw so many more scenes this time that I hadn’t previously seen in my first two visits. The sets, costumes, music, and physicality of the performers are absolutely superb. Be warned: there is a lot of walking, stair climbing, and no linear narrative. You have to discover the world on your own and make your own way through the five floors. You will most likely get separated from your party, but that’s part of the fun! Best advice: get lost and explore. I can’t wait to return again and see even more things I missed during my previous three visits.

    Creepy, wonderful and totally unique
Be prepared for loud, atmospheric sound, dark, dark dark rooms, provocative scenes, and an experience. Unlike any other. You choose what you want to explore. Your choices determine the play you see.

    Like The Emperor’s New Clothes
I can’t really add to what the other reviews have said. I am a regular theatre goer and frequently come from London to watch shows. This is not a show, it is a confusing situation which contains a lot of pot luck as to what you will experience. It is very much darker than it needs to be. And hotter. And why the masks? I just didn’t get it.

    5⭐ and not for eveeyone
It's been 48 hours and I'm still processing my experience. I can say it's one of the most impactful pieces of theater ive ever seen. It's not something I would blanket reccomend to everyone - it's not meant for mass appeal but for it's intended audience, I think it has the potential to be a truly life changing experience. For me, it was well worth the price tag and time commitment and was easily one of the best experiences on my recent trip to NYC. You will spend a majority of the time confused and running and will likely leave with more questions. If you enjoy art that makes you think and pushes your boundaries, this is definitely for you!

    Be Bold and Curious
I’ve been intrigued for years but never got around to seeing Sleep No More until I learned it was closing. I can see how the audience is divided as this is an usual experience. As you put on your mask and enter the last thing you are told is “fortune favors the bold.” This is not a place to be passive or timid! While there is no right way to follow the story and experience the show, it is essential that you follow your instinct and be open to possibility. I found that following the music rather than the actors kept me out of the crowd while leading me to where the action was taking place. I learned more by reading papers on desks and mantles, and by arriving at an empty space with music playing, only to find actors rush in after me, I became a detective finding pieces of a puzzle. Afterwards my partner and I were able to compare experiences and share what we learned. We spoke with others we know who’d previously seen the show. Together we pieced together more of the story, and we searched online for even more details that we’d missed. This left us curious and with more questions! We immediately booked a return for next month, and when I learned the show was extended another month, through March, we bought a third date as well. The only thing I didn’t like was the rudeness of some of the other audience members. It is clear that some have seen the show multiple times and have a plan. Because of the anonymity of masks, there was some aggressive jockeying for position, and cutting people off. I realized quickly that lots of people follow one character. So if you don’t like crowds, chose a different strategy!!

    Amazing experience!
It seems as though the negative reviews are from people who haven’t dug deeper. The first time I attended it was so cool but I had SO many questions after. I knew I had to see it again. I’ve now been 5 times and the last time I went was the best of all. The more you can learn about the story - the better in my opinion. I know a lot of places will say not to read before hand but for me it would have made a lot more sense. All in all - this will be worth every penny for you to experience! I really hope they continue the show and don’t end in March!

Right, firstly the good. Amazing dance and movement routines. Great sets and genuinely spooky vibe. The bad..had to que for 40 minutes to get in. This event is not cheap..but they take the opportunity to charge you 4dollars for hanging up a coat which seems a bit unnecessary. Once in, eventually, there is a bit of time to grab a drink..before you are set loose. There are a lot of people in the event with action occuring in random places. At times it feels like you are chasing actors and battling with other 'audience' members to get a view. But none of it really makes sense..as you really only get to see little bits of the action. Once it does occur it can be very good..or just completely dull. One fellow audience member fell asleep and another fainted.. probably due to all the running up and down stairs. I chose to sit down and rest for a lot of it and was happy when it all ended..only to have to queue for another 20 minutes to retrieve my coat. Over priced and a little pretentious. Fans of surreal, dark theatre may enjoy it and I'm sure plenty did but it wasn't for me.

Never have we left a so called 'theatrical show' feeling so duped and ripped off.

A shocking waste of time and a lot of money.

While the settings are cool, there is virtually no acting and you spend your time chasing with a group of other spectators after actors in the hope you get to see what's happening..which is basically NOTHING!
The only scene that was any way decent was the finale at the table.
Still had no clue what was going on.
To add insult to injury we queued for over 40mins to get our coat while staff tried to flog their next show. Staff couldn't care less that there was no order and crowds of people were skipping to get their coats.

Don't be gullable tourists like we were believing the hype.
You will be bored and want to leave early but will stay in the hope it improves.
Don't waste your hard earned cash.

Shame on the Production company for so little substance.

I’m not sure where to start:
Price: we paid a discounted price of $125 for the 3pm show. Quite frankly, extortionate to watch a uni performance - perhaps I missed the point but at very few points could I get any semblance of Macbeth which the show is purported to be about

Experience: ridiculous queueing to get in - arrive at 3 and you’ll be lucky to get in for 3:30 so it’s not actually a 3 hour show. You are shown to the bar, which is cool - prices are extortionate for a drink and you have to guzzle it down to be ready to enter the “hotel”. The worst part is the crowds. Tickets are clearly oversold so once you are in, it’s a melee to follow the interesting characters and no one is adverse to elbowing you out of the way

Performance: be careful who you follow. I ended up watching a bloke fiddle around with some bones for 15 minutes, hoping it would get interesting. It didn’t. Some interestingly bizarre interpretive dance and random nudity that was completely unnecessary, in my opinion, but I guess they need something to lure in the crowds.

WARNING: the place is bloody dark and really easy to walk into things so not for those with any sight impediments. You also need to be fairly fit to keep up with the characters sprinting up and down 4 flights of stairs.

Overall, I came out feeling like I’d been scammed and wanted the 3 hours of prime NYC time back. Would avoid unless you want to laugh. Also you have to fully mask up and it gets boiling in there so it’s thoroughly uncomfortable!

Read the negative reviews.

This place is an absolute tourist trap. I feel like I was mugged buying tickets for this absolute scam.

First, guests are treated to a mandatory 4 dollar fee for the cloakroom.

The "immersive theatre" consists of vague shreds of clichéd and contrived Shakespeare being delivered through the medium of interpretive dance.

Good look trying to actually see any of the performers though as you'll need to contend with 100+ other audience members charging through the building like a herd of cattle in a children's fun house. We felt very unsafe.

The building is packed with so many people you physically can't watch the performances so I honestly couldn't tell if the dancing was good or not.

There is no organisation and no direction, but don't worry because as you wander through empty rooms wondering what's going on, there's no story for you to miss.

Not an exaggeration to say that this is the worst entertainment experience I've ever wasted money on.

Don't waste your time. Scandalously expensive and, ultimately, boring. It's a nice idea but poorly executed.

They really pack the place to the rafters which makes for an unintimate experience and, unless your barge your way to the front, means you have to crane your neck over a crowd ten rows deep to catch any glimpse of the action.

But really, the action isn't worth seeing. Some of the choregraphed scenes feel a bit am dram - lots of pensive looks - and the more mundane ones are well, rather mundane. You know you're in New York when you're paying $120 to watch a pretend hotelier very deliberately polish a glass.

I defied titular expectations and enjoyed a nap in a cosy armchair. Missed the entire last hour. Would recommend.

One of the most interesting theatrical experiences ever. in the beginning I DID find it very frustrating to find the characters in the large space and find out where the action was happening, but once I caught on to listen and look carefully, I had a great experience. It would be great if the staff gave a couple of hints or clues as to where to start and what to watch for.

I would recommend getting as early an entry to the show as possible so you have time to get acquainted with the "hotel" and get a feel for the space and what is going on. Afterwards I read a blog where they recommended focusing spending time on the 2nd and 4th floors to catch most of the action.

I hope I get a chance to return and see more of the things I missed...there is no way to see all the story lines in one "viewing".

Myself and my husband attended Sleep No More in NY and we were a little disappointed with the whole experience.

It’s an immersive experience where you walk around 4/5 levels of the hotel that they strongly recommend you do alone! We started off doing the experience alone but after about 1.5 hours we stumbled upon each other and just decided to do the rest together because we didn’t find it that interesting and to be honest, didn’t know what on earth was going on! The actors and actresses were great and knew what they we’re doing but we just couldn’t follow the plot because they were all over the different levels of the building so in order to follow the story line I think you’d have to follow them all around the hole time! But this is just impossible with the amount of people they cram into the place!
It’s also encouraged to explore things in your own way and be curious but there really wasn’t anything interesting to find! We thought there’d be secret rooms or hidden doors etc but we didn’t come across anything like that. Overall a bit disappointing.

Do NOT get the package with the reserved table. 99% of the show takes place on other rooms and floors (where there are plenty of other FREE places to sit down). The “reserved table” is kind of ‘scammy.’ If you want to see the show and do the experience, you’ll likely hardly use the reserved table. We spent less than 5 minutes there and it we weren’t even into the show (and it was about a $400/couple upcharge)!!

As you’ve read elsewhere, the show is a mess. it’s often slow moving —like watching paint dry. In one scene, I literally watched an actor sleep in a bed for roughly 10 minutes. In another scene, I watched a guy crouch down ssslllloowwwly for 5 minutes. The interpretive dance/ballet scenes were good but got repetitive really fast. There truly wasn’t any story to follow -as countless reviews have echoed …

Yes, exploring the 5+ story hotel and its dozens of stocked and creepy rooms is fun but…nothing seems to lead to anything or have any meaning or payoff. No one explains anything and there’s nothing worth trying to interpret.

It seems like a great concept that needs to be made over with an entirely different, more exciting play/story etc (and add words)

I was first told of SNM some 4 years ago, my partner had suggested but was concerned that I might not like it. After giving me the details from a friend of ours I booked as Guest of Maximilian for two. Upon arriving we were greeted with a personal coat check in with the concierge and received our "room key". All very professional so far from Security, Concierge and desk clerks.

The Manderley Bar is quite quaint and cozy, friendly staff/actors greet you and maybe an absinth if your'e lucky. Our room key was called out and we we ushered into the waiting area for our elevator. From here your are given strict instructions to follow as well as your Viennese mask for your stay in the McKittrick Hotel.

Wear comfortable shoes as you will be moving around allot, do not wear jackets or coats as it does get warm and always try to maintain eye contact with the Hosts.

After your stay in the McKittrick head to the Gallow Green the roof bar for after drinks and bite to eat, you may just run into a few of the actors for a chat.
