Canada is a hugely popular place for international tourists to visit on their travels. According to Statistics Canada, the country’s international tourism figures broke records in 2017, surpassing the records that were set all the way back in 2002. 20.8 million trips of one or more nights to the country were recorded, which is phenomenal given that Canada itself only has a population of 36.29 million people.
If you’re interested in seeing what all of the fuss is about and finding out for yourself why international tourists are so fond of the great white north, then you’ll want to keep reading. We’ve highlighted several experiences worth investing in when you travel to Canada and you won’t want to miss out.
Hit Up the Local Tourist Hotspots
When considering the local tourist hotspots that Canada has to offer, it’s little wonder that the country draws so many millions of international visitors each year. Some of the most highly rated tourist-y attractions in the country include Niagara Falls, the breathtaking waterfall on the American border that features an incredible 57-metre drop. The ski resort and village of Whistler is another chance to see Canada’s natural beauty for yourself. Or, for a more man-made (but no less entertaining) experience, there’s the World Heritage Site of Old Quebec and the world famous CN Tower in Toronto.
Get Gaming Like a Local
If you’re as interested in the culture as the sites, then you may want to dip your toes into Canada’s local gaming scene. Canada is famous for its love of ice hockey and if you go during the NHL season there will be plenty of local teams to watch in action. Things may get especially rowdy when the American teams take a trip across the border, but this just means you’ll get to learn about rivalries! Speaking of Americans, your visit to Canada would go amiss if you didn’t try your hand at the lottery, which is another form of gaming that’s popular with the locals. Apps like Lottoland allow you to bet on Canadian lotteries as well as international lotteries such as the US Powerball. The US Powerball is famed for its jackpots, so that would be one very nice way to cap off your visit.
Take a Walk on the Wild(life) Side
However, the Canadian people aren’t the only “locals” that you’ll want to interact with on your visit. Canada is also famed for the abundance of its wildlife and thankfully, there are plenty of different wildlife experiences for you to choose from. British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest stays true to its name as it features the rare Kermode (Spirit) bear, while Nunavut offers spectacular views of schools of belugas. With mountains, woods, water and more locations where wildlife thrives, you’ll see all sorts of creatures during your stay.
Canada is also a hit with tourists because of the country’s friendly citizens and its chilly (but cosy) climate. Put all of these factors together makes for one unforgettable vacation.
