Here's what we're covering:
Must-have packing list
Packing lists will literally save your trip. Whether you’re in a hurry or have some time to prepare for a trip, a simple list will make sure you don’t forget anything.
Why you need a packing list
Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or not, a packing list is an essential part of the process.
A packing list is essentially a simple breakdown of all the things you need to bring with you on a trip. These can be generic items that you have to bring on any trip but they can also be trip-specific.
At the end of the day, the packing list is something that you refer to as you’re filling up your suitcase and/or backpack and serves as a reminder and final check to make sure you didn’t forget something.
How to use a packing list
Packing lists are organic and personal.
After you get the template for a packing list, you can start molding it to who you are as a traveller. Here’s what you need to think about:
- Differences between a male and female traveller –
- Destination – Countries will play a part of what you need to bring. Think about sensitivity to culture, dress-code, and restrictions.
- Duration – The principle of not over-packing is still valid but longer trips will always mean you need to pack more.
- Climate and season – Weather will have a big influence on what you will bring
- Format – Are you someone that likes things down on paper or do you prefer to have it on your phone in a note taking app like Evernote, or do you prefer to have it built into your trip planning spreadsheet like I do in my trip planning process.
The most important thing is that once you’ve created your version of a packing list, don’t forget to adjust it and constantly tweak it. This isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it kind of things.
TIP: You will inevitably forget something on a trip. These are the things that can easily slip your mind so when it happens, quickly add it to your packing list so you won’t forget next time.
