Right across from that lovely long-stretched bridge you can see from downtown San Diego is a beautiful resort city called Coronado Island. It’s a personal favorite of mine because of just how easy it is to get to a spot that is somehow even more laid back than San Diego. The small-town charm is only overshadowed by the breathtaking views of the water and sunset by the beach.
If you’re having trouble planning out your trip through this must-visit city in California, the following are a few of the highly touted hotels in Coronado that I’d recommend. They aren’t necessarily only the big resorts that get all the attention, but rather ones that are well rated and near activities. Without further ado, here are where to stay in Coronado that I think you should book for your next vacation.
When it comes to the best Coronado hotels, here are 5 that should be at the top of your list.
La Avenida Inn – Great Value
This is a family friendly inn just off Coronado’s main street. It’s a great option because the room rates are much less than most of the large resorts. What it lacks in scale, it compensates with incredible service, attentive staff, spotless maintenance, and nearby restaurants, bars, and shopping. The property is a 5-minute walk from the beach, with the hotel providing complimentary beach accessories. La Avenida Inn is a great choice for those wanting good value for their money.
This property dials back the time with its 125 year history. Full of charm, history, and nostalgia, guests feel like they’re staying in a museum. Despite its age, the hotel has been constantly going through renovations to bring modern luxuries to every guest room. Being one of the première hotels in Coronado, the prices are premium. Hotel del Coronado is right by the beach. Plus, there are several pools, making this the perfect beach getaway spot.
Loews Coronado Bay Resort – A Pampering Experience
Set right at water’s edge, Loews Coronado Bay Resort commands an amazing view of the water and secluded beach nearby. Everything exudes quality here with exceptional customer service, first-rate pool, modern rooms, and water sports rentals. The trade-off is that the property is on the high-end of things. In addition, the site is more secluded than others, so while it stays quiet throughout the day, it is a bit farther from the main strip.
This is the number one reviewed resort in Coronado, and for good reason. Not one of the large resorts, 1906 Lodge is more of a cross between an upscale B&B and a revitalized boutique hotel. A stay here delights guests with many charming rooms outfitted with fireplaces and patio, free vegetarian gourmet breakfast, and both the city and beach nearby.
This modern resort is among the top five in the area. Outfitted with condominium style units, comfortable furnishings augmented by a kitchenette, the property is perfect for travelers wanting to prepare their own food to save money. While it isn’t right along the beach, it’s just across the street. As for amenities, it isn’t as full service as a resort but Coronado Beach Resort does have full access to Loews Coronado Bay Resort via a shuttle.
